How does it work?
I hold an office at Washington University near Forest Park that is available for sessions, or we can work at libraries or coffee-houses more convenient to your needs. Depending on the distance, I will also meet you at your home. I typically tutor in one of two capacities. I prefer to schedule one or two weekly sessions that stay relatively permanent, however we can schedule sessions on a weekly basis if necessary. I find that regular (at least once a week) sessions are the most beneficial. For more focused students, it may be helpful to meet only occasionally to review particularly difficult subjects or to prepare for exams, and in this capacity we can meet whenever the student is in need of assistance. If you hire me as your tutor, we will do more than work on your homework together. I am a professional biologist, science is what I live and breath every day and I find it fascinating. I will bring innovative learning concepts and examples from my own work that will reinforce the principles and concepts you are learning in class. We will work on your study habits and note-taking skills. I will create practice exams with which you can hone your knowledge, and we will make the subject as interesting to you as possible. Personally tailored instruction is key to success in both your science courses and in standardized test preparation. I also provide an online "tutor log" for parents that is password protected for each individual student and keeps the parents up to date on what we are going over, how well prepared the student was, and any suggestions.
And most importantly, how much will this cost?
My hourly rate is $45. This rate decreases with prolonged sessions of more than 1 hour. I value consistent, weekly students who are willing to put in their effort and time and if cost is a problem, we can make it work.
