Advice on choice and source of:
  • Cellophane disks
The disks we use are Thpe 325P, obtainable from AA Package Ltd., Liverpool Road, Walmer Bridge, Preston, Lancashire PR4 5 HY, England. The price of our last order (2003) eas about £7.50/1000 for 80 mm discs (but we had to order 50,000 disks). AA Packaging unfortunately insist on payment at the time of ordering.
  • protoplast filters
Stainless steel 100 µm filters are obtainable from various sources but we have had small filters made for us, and we have some for sale (Fig 1, Fig2).
  • blenders
You can use either:

purpose-made grinders, obtainable from Leeds University, photograph attached. These can be driven by any speed motor, for example a craft drill. The initial cost is high, but they are very robust and should last for very many tissue blends (Fig 3, Fig4) or, you can buy disposable tissue grinders from Fisher. These are fairly cheap, work very well, but are not as robust. You will however need to purchase the motor to drive unit which is quite expensive.

  • Driselase
Obtain from Sigma (D9515, which is the cheaper option, seems to work just as well as D8037 -the "Plant cell culture tested" option).
