  Research Interests

Peter H. Raven has been a world leader in the fields of plant evolution and systematics. In working out systematic and evolutionary problems, he has utilized a broad approach including data from cytogenetics, breeding systems, ecological preferences, pollination biology and biogeographic considerations as well as the more traditional types of information. He has published several important, masterfully written general papers covering broad aspects of evolution, phylogeny, and plant distribution. In addition to his outstanding contribution to basic science, Peter Raven has been a major force in the conservation of biodiversity around the world for nearly 30 years.
