Hardware and Software Purchasing
Macintosh Purchases To purchase Apple hardware/software with a grant fund number you must purchase directly from Apple. A Web quote will need to be generated first to go along with the P.O. you submit to the Stockroom. To select and generate a quote go to http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/routingpage.html and click on the Higher Education Institution link under Shop For Your School. You will then be taken to a page asking you to select your school. Simply use the scroll down menus to locate our state, city and the school of Washington University. After you have done this you will be taken to the main Apple Store page for Washington University where you can select from the various models that Apple has to offer. Once you have selected the hardware that you want you click on the Submit to Purchaser button at the bottom of the screen. Once you click on this button you will be asked for your Apple I.D. If you do not have an Apple I.D. simply click on Click Here link to set up your free account. The next page will ask you for your Proposal information and once entered just click on continue. The next page will have your Web proposal number along with the total of your order. Click on the Download Your Proposal Information link to download and print your proposal. Once the proposal is printed submit it along with your P.O. to the Stockroom for ordering.PC Purchases For a new PC we recommend either Dell. Details about Washington University special pricing is available by logging onto to Dell's website under Premire Login. Please see Mike Malolepszy or Frances Thuet for assistance.Printer Purchases We recommend Hewlett Packard laser and inkjet printers. The University has contracted with Quantum Technologies for the purchase and service of HP printers, and the company is local which saves shipping costs. To obtain a price quote or discuss your printing needs please contact Mike Malolepszy (935-4262) or Frances Thuet (935-6705). Software Purchases Biology provides the licenses necessary to run Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Entourage) and Norton anti-virus software. Please contact us to have this software installed on your system. To order Adobe software the university has contracted with Software Plus through The Software Library which has reduced our cost. To receive a price quote or obtain a part number for ordering you can contact Chad Adams with Software Plus at chada@swpnet.com. To order all other hardware/software please use CDW. CDW carries a large variety of products and they do give us a good educational discount.
